Make an informed choice
Choosing your next tool
Choose the layer you need to replace
E2B provides execution environments for agent applications. Its closest alternatives are other programmable sandbox services. Application builders and visual agent tools address related work at a different layer: they can be useful when the actual goal is creating an app or assembling an agent, but they should not be assumed to provide the same isolated runtime controls.
Workflow comparison
| Product | Primary workflow | Selection question |
|---|---|---|
| E2B | Create and manage Linux sandboxes through SDKs | Do you need execution environments inside your own agent product? |
| Modal | Programmable sandbox execution within a cloud compute platform | Would one platform for sandboxes and other compute workloads fit better? |
| Replit | Build and revise applications with Agent in a hosted development workspace | Do you want an application-building experience rather than a runtime API? |
| Flowise | Assemble LLM applications and agent workflows visually | Is orchestration and tool configuration the immediate problem? |
| Langflow | Connect components into agent and retrieval flows | Would a visual flow with an API endpoint suit your team? |
Modal for programmable execution
Modal Sandboxes is a relevant direct comparison for running untrusted or generated code in a separate environment. Evaluate its SDK, images, resource options, lifecycle and networking against your actual workload. Compare costs using the same runtime and configuration assumptions. Neither product's ability to run code establishes that a generated program is correct.
Replit for a finished development workspace
Replit offers a more integrated path when the objective is building an application. Its Agent documentation describes working from natural-language requests in the Replit environment. E2B leaves the surrounding interface and orchestration to the developer. Prefer Replit when that hosted building experience is valuable; assess E2B when you are supplying that experience to your own users.
Flowise and Langflow for orchestration
Flowise and Langflow help assemble agents and model workflows. Their Flowise documentation and Langflow documentation explain visual building and connected components. They may complement a sandbox rather than replace it. Before choosing, map where code actually executes, how credentials reach tools, and how sessions are isolated. Check each product's current hosted access or self-hosting requirements, then run a small task that includes input files, an execution failure and cleanup.
