Glean alternatives
Glean combines cross-application search, a company-context assistant, and agents. An alternative may cover one of those roles well without replacing the whole platform. Compare where your authoritative knowledge lives, which systems need to be connected, and who will maintain the deployment before choosing a product.

Three published options
| Option | Documented focus | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Notion AI | Workspace AI, connected search, and agents | Useful when Notion is central to the team's knowledge and work |
| Box | Content management and AI across curated Hubs | Useful when managed documents and files are the main source |
| AnythingLLM | Document chat and agents with selectable model and deployment paths | More responsibility for setup, source handling, and operation |
Notion AI for a workspace-centered approach
Notion's official AI page presents enterprise search over connected apps, Notion Agent, custom agents, and administrative controls. It distinguishes trial AI access from Business capabilities and usage-based custom-agent access; connected search is marked beta. Compare how much of the team's knowledge already lives in Notion and which outside sources you need. Inspect source citations, permissions, and the actual plan before assuming a free workspace supplies the whole enterprise AI offering.
Box for managed content and curated knowledge
Box AI for Hubs supports questions over curated content collections with source access controls. This is relevant when an approved set of files, policies, or project documents is the main knowledge requirement. Compare a curated Hub with Glean's wider connected application scope. Box's individual access and business AI features differ, so confirm the eligible plan and content limits instead of assuming free file storage includes advanced AI.
AnythingLLM for a deployment your team controls
AnythingLLM's documentation describes document-based chat and agent capabilities with local or cloud model choices. It offers desktop and self-hosted paths alongside hosted access. This makes it a useful comparison for a selected knowledge corpus or an internally operated assistant. The tradeoff is responsibility for models, document updates, access, hosting, and maintenance. Local deployment does not by itself make every chosen model or connected tool local.
Choose with one source-backed task
Use an onboarding question with a current policy, an outdated document, and a restricted source. Check whether the answer cites the appropriate material and how a source update changes the result. Then test the specific action you need separately from search. Glean's enterprise proposal, Notion's AI and agent allowances, Box's business AI scope, and AnythingLLM's deployment and model costs are different access models. Compare the complete task and operating responsibility, rather than only the appearance of the answer.
