TripIt

New

TripIt turns forwarded confirmation emails into one master itinerary in seconds, and at twenty years old it is the most battle-tested email-parsing organizer there is. The Pro tier adds real-time flight alerts, gate changes and pre-trip guidance. The default app of frequent business travelers.

TripIt turned twenty this year, and it still runs on one interaction so good it never needed replacing: forward your confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com and seconds later a clean master itinerary exists, flights, hotels, cars, restaurants, in order, with the details you'll actually need at 5 a.m. in a security line. It doesn't care where you booked. Airline site, corporate tool, your cousin's travel agent, everything lands in the same place. Machine parsing of messy human emails was AI before the word got fashionable, and TripIt's is the most battle-tested there is.

The free tier does all of the above and is enough for casual travel. TripIt Pro is where road warriors live: real-time flight alerts that routinely beat the airline's own app to gate changes and delays, terminal reminders, fare-refund watching, and pre-trip guidance that compiles entry requirements for international runs. That alert speed is the thing Pro subscribers refuse to give up.

What it deliberately isn't

A planner. TripIt has no opinion about where you should go and books nothing; the closest it comes to suggesting anything is Nearby Places, which surfaces restaurants, cafes, ATMs and pharmacies around wherever your itinerary has put you. It starts working after you've booked, and its discipline about that boundary is why it's lasted. Frequent flyers pair it with a discovery tool and let each do its job.

Alternatives worth knowing

Apple-centric travelers should look at Tripsy, which does the same job with a prettier face and calendar integration. Ribbit scans Gmail automatically instead of waiting for forwards and adds planning on top. TripIt remains the most platform-neutral and the most proven of the three.

Bottom line

The most reliable travel organizer ever built. Not exciting, precisely the point. If you fly for work, Pro pays for itself the first time it texts you a gate change before the airline does.
