Compare motion capture and motion creation
DeepMotion combines video-based capture with text-generated movement. A close alternative should supply usable character-motion data, rather than only generate a flat video of a person moving. Compare the entire path from source recording or prompt to the skeleton used in your animation application.
Three specialized alternatives
| Option | Relevant workflow | Access check |
|---|---|---|
| Rokoko Vision / Create | Uploaded-video and text motion, refined in Rokoko Studio | Free entry; processing and retargeting vary by plan |
| Move One | Single-camera video into motion data through Move Platform | Initial free credits and paid processing plans |
| Plask Motion | Video capture, character animation and scene rendering | Free processing allowance; paid volume and storage |
Where the workflows differ
Rokoko Vision now lives inside Rokoko Create alongside text-to-motion. Its documented path is video upload, processing, refinement in Rokoko Studio and export. Studio supports editing, looping and character retargeting, with plan differences. The current Vision page says webcam recording and dual-camera capture were removed, and finger tracking is not included at launch. This distinction matters if those capabilities are central to your reference performance.
Move One's single-file workflow accepts an uploaded single-camera recording through Move Platform. Its guidance recommends a fixed camera and one clearly framed performer. It also provides an iPhone capture route. The pricing documentation distinguishes initial free credits from subscription allocations and explains that model choice affects credit consumption. Compare the actual supported capture and export route for your character pipeline.
Plask Motion extracts movement from video, applies it to an imported character and adds scene controls for camera, lighting and visual effects. Its plan table documents FBX, GLB and BVH export, video rendering and collaboration, with processing and storage allowances. It is relevant when you want to continue toward a rendered scene as well as transfer motion to another application.
Evaluate contacts and retargeting
Use a short action with visible feet, a turn and a hand gesture. Inspect sliding, joint positions and intersections after applying it to your own character. Confirm export, cleanup effort and intended-use licensing before building a larger animation set. None of these workflows removes the need to review the final scene.
